Becoming an Effective Life Purpose Coach

If you ask people, finding a life purpose coach will probably be not their top priority when they're young or happy. But once they get older or experience a life changing event, there's a chance they will begin to ponder on their own lives and ask themselves what their life direction is. For many people, it's a serious search and many of them turn to a life purpose coach to help them organize their lives and improve themselves.

Becoming a coach is more than just a career or a job – it is a mission. People seek coaches at a time of transition in their lives, whether they're undergoing it involuntarily or are purposely performing it themselves. A life purpose coach helps them find direction and maximize their true potential. If this is a career path you wish to take, whether on a part-time or full-time basis, it's important for you to be prepared.

Having the right attitude As a life purpose coach, it's important for you to have a deep empathy and compassion for people. Sometimes, it will even help if you are intuitive about other people's feelings and needs, regardless of who they are and what they do. This will help you adapt to the different needs and personalities of your clients and make them feel comfortable enough to communicate openly with you.

You should also have a deep need to help and provide service. Remember that for many of your clients, finding their life purpose is a serious undertaking. Much of what will result from their coaching sessions with you will affect their lives in a profound manner. If you want to be an effective life coach, be emotionally prepared for the job.

Learn about your career. It takes more than just the ability to give good advice and guidance to become an effective life purpose coach. Learn everything you can about the subject. There are plenty of resources you can use – books, seminars, workshops, articles, radio and TV programs, etc. You can even learn from a mentor or a professional coach as well.

Try to brush up on the subject of psychology to help you understand personality types and how to best deal with them. Many of your sessions will require your clients to reveal many aspects about themselves and their lives that they otherwise would not to other people. By helping them work through these hurdles, you will be able to reach them in a way only effective coaches can.

The technical side of coaching Becoming a life purpose coach is more than just listening to people's dreams and goals and guiding them to find the answers. There is a danger that without the proper training or experience, you could end up performing therapy sessions rather than coaching sessions.

Learn the difference between the two and research about how to use coaching techniques to facilitate certain behavior or attitude changes and make the most out of the limited time each of your sessions have. You have better chances of succeeding as a life purpose coach if you know how to use your coaching skills effectively and manage your time efficiently.
